Our Story

Crochet gives me an inner peace that I treasure each and every day.

Hi there, Wellcome to my page!

My name is Enida and I’m thrilled to tell you more about me and what I do.

As the creative force behind yarnS, I infuse my slow fashion brand with a unique blend of cultural influences and contemporary flair.

Hailing from the picturesque landscapes of Bosnia and now residing amidst the vibrant energy of Sicily, my journey is a testament to the transformative power of creativity and craftsmanship.

My passion for designing and handcrafting exquisite pieces was ignited at a young age, as I fondly recall sewing my first Barbie dress with meticulous care and attention to detail. However, it was the art of crocheting that truly captured my heart, prompting me to fully immerse myself in the world of yarn and stitches.

Embracing the slow fashion movement, my creations are more than just garments – they are stories woven with threads of tradition, innovation, and sustainability. Each crochet pattern is a manifestation of my unwavering dedication to preserving artisanal techniques while exploring new realms of design possibility.

What sets me apart is my belief in continuous growth and learning; I view crochet not just as a craft, but as a journey of self-discovery and evolution. With every stitch, I embrace the challenge of refining my skills and pushing the boundaries of my creativity.

Through yarnS, I invite you to join me on this enchanting voyage, where each creation tells a tale of passion, authenticity, and timeless elegance.

A lot of the time when you see the price of a handmade item you might think it’s a little overpriced, or it might seem too much in regards to what you pay for something similar in a store. But there are many things we don’t take into considerations, other than authenticity, there is a lot work, time and money invested into making and selling handmade goods. I’ll try to bring you closer to what it looks for me when I’m putting a price onto the things that I make.

I’ve based my pricing structure on Katrina Wilson’s blog post from Nina Bella Knits and this is how it goes:

    Labor+Materials+Profit=Retail price+Shipping costs

Labour: ‘This is the amount of time you physically spend making an item multiplied with your hourly wage’. I, for example, pay myself €10.00 an hour which is the minimum wage here in Italy. So I’ll take that number and multiply it with the number of hours it takes me to crochet a certain product.

Materials:The amount you spent on materials to make your product including advertisement and shipping materials’. In my case the main piece of material that I use is yarn. A ball of yarn that I use can vary depending of the type yarn, being synthetic (least expensive) or natural wool like merino, alpaca etc..bit more on the pricey side. Then there are other accessories I use on my products like pompons, leather for soles on booties, leather tags, packaging boxes, wrapping paper, stickers, wooden tags and thank you cards.

Profit:This doesn’t necessarily mean you are banking that money on top of your labour and just rolling in the cash. It is a means not having to go into deficit in order to keep your business running and/or making it better and bigger. This would include: your tools (replacing and upgrading needles and hooks isn’t cheap!), booth fees if you want to do a market for more exposure, website fees, paying ads on Facebook and Instagram, the time going to and from the yarn store, covering losses if you need to replace items or doing returns (someone has to pay for shipping), participating in giveaways or marketing, buying the equipment for photography, all those nice photos take time and effort…you get the picture’.

Retail Price: when you add up all the things above you’ll come to the price of what your item should cost.

Shipping: Shipping isn’t cheap and a lot of customers would be put off by seeing that. You have two options, leaving the price as is and having the costumer pay full shipping or increasing the price of the item a bit and offer free shipping.

The price will obviously vary depending on the size of the item, because of the amount of the material you use and the amount of the time you spend on making that particular thing. For adult sizes I use more material and I also spend more time on producing it therefore the price will be higher as well, the same goes for clothing pieces or blankets.

The other thing that might affect the price significantly is the type of yarn I use. When I use acrylic yarn for crocheting a beanie for example, it’ll cost less than the same beanie made out of, let’s say merino wool, or any type of organic wool, which is double or even three times the price of acrylic, therefore the price of the product will be higher.

    Patterns

When pricing a pattern the first thing I take into a consideration is the complexity of the pattern.

Some patterns take more time to develop and write, while other patterns take less.

Most of my patterns have child sizes as well as adult included, and that’s over 50 pages, and probably would take anywhere between 4-6 months to make, write, test and release. Those patterns would be in the price range of €10-20. This price also includes sets.

If the pattern has one size only and take 2-4 months to develop, the price range would be €3-6. And if it has child sizes only or adult sizes only, the price would be anywhere between €6-10.

  • Crochet Patterns:

You can sell the pieces from my patterns as a maker, all while you credit me as a designer. You cannot though manufacture products based on my patterns and sell them as your own.

    -Do not tumble dry

    -Do not iron

    -Dry flat only

Every item comes with the instruction of how to care for it. We recommend washing all of our products by hand to avoid lint and fluff even though that will happen over time, which you can treat by using a tool like a fabric shaver, very carefully. Also since all of our product come with a leather tag or leather parts, like our baby shoes, you’ll have to take that into consideration as well and clean it as required to preserve those leather parts as long as possible.

The clothing with leather tags are best washed in tepid water, after that rinse and roll up in the towel to totally remove the water.

Use a dry soft cloth or brush to clear dirt particles and clean the leather suede parts with a moist cloth afterwards. If there is persistent dirt or spots that won’t come off, dip the cloth in a mixture of 50% water and 50% vinegar and rub the spots until they are completely removed.
